NOTARY SERVICES

Getting a standard document notarized or commissioned is a quick and easy process; Smolensky Law often has same day appointments.

Your documents should be filled out before you arrive with the exception of the signature line. Please do not sign the document ahead of time. If you do, we will not be able to notarize it for you.

WHAT IS A NOTARY?

A Notary Public in Alberta is an "Officer of the Law" who has all the same powers as a Commissioner of Oaths. Along with commissioning signatures, a Notary Public can also notarize documents for use in another province or country. Lawyers and Judges are automatically made Notary Publics.

WHAT IS A COMMISSIONER OF OATHS?

A Commissioner of Oaths can endorse affirmations and declarations, administer oaths, and receive affidavits. Commissioners are only able to sign documents that are valid in Alberta. A Commissioner of Oaths will not verify the content of your document but they will allow you to swear it's validity. Like Notaries, they are subject to the Notaries and Commissioners Act of Alberta

WHERE DO MY NOTARY MONEY GO?

$5 of every standard Notary goes towards charity. This month's charity is:
